I was an unwed mother of nine (puppies!) who found her way to a lovely shelter in Cincinnati, Ohio. Soon, my puppies were all grown up and ready to be adopted, but they got all the attention, and nobody wanted to adopt me! Then, one day a man and a lady came. They'd had another rescue hound dog who had died, and they said they were looking for a dog JUST LIKE ME! I peeked up out of my dog bed and gave them my best i'm-very-sad-and-worried look, and the man exclaimed "Awwwwwwwwwww!" I knew they would be my people.
Now I live with them in a big house with a big yard and several furry things called "cats." At first I was afraid of them, and I hid behind my dad when they came around. Now they mostly ignore me, and I mostly ignore them. I also didn't know what a tv set was, and I barked at it a lot.
Now I hardly ever bark; if I do, it usually means something's wrong, even if it's something only I can see or hear. I do grumble and wheeze and snort a lot, though, especially when I'm rubbing my face in the carpet or on the couch.
I seem to be a beagle/basset hound mix; nobody's sure how much of each. About half the people who meet me yell "Look at the beagle!" and the other half say "Look at the basset hound!" I like to think I have the best of both breeds; I'm larger than a standard beagle (about 35 pounds) and verrrry looong, with short stocky legs and luxurious long floppy ears. I have bright hazel eyes too, unlike lots of other dogs. I'm tri-colored - black and white on my back, belly, and legs, and brown on my face and ears. I have a white mark shaped like a bone on my back.
